Advice for Injured Runners

Ditch the scale. You'll gain weight, but not as much as you fear.

Ditch timelines. Healing is not a linear path. You'll step forward & back many times.

Your gait will change when you return. Strides & time will help normalize it.

You'll have compensatory injuries too that you'll need to treat.

Continue your PT even when you are feeling good.

You may feel a loss of identity. Your sense of self will clarify & return.

Most people, especially non-runners, won't understand your loss. But it is a loss.

Rest isn't enough. You also need to strengthen.

Don't let too many opinions crowd your head. Trust your gut.

Return to running SLOWLY. Do not increase mileage as much as 10%.

Injuries are NOT YOUR FAULT! They come with taking risks!
