A treadmill can be an invaluable tool for your fitness goals by helping you stay consistent. I am reviewing the ten best treadmills for runners on a budget. These ten home treadmills come with different capabilities and price points. My favorite is the Xterra FitnessTR150 Folding Treadmill because it goes up to a 10 mph speed and has 50” running deck. Having a treadmill as a part of your home gym is a great way to make sure that you can get in your run regardless of your schedule, childcare situation, darkness, or the weather outdoors. Treadmills are pricy though! Enter my list of budget-friendly treadmills.

Some treadmills are unnecessarily expensive and come with features that you really don’t need like preset programs or a wide speed range. I want to help you keep your training going, no matter the obstacles, with the best cheap treadmills—top quality in a low price range.

IF you are looking for the a high-end treadmills and don’t care about the cost, then my recommendations are the Nordictrack C1750  ($2,500) and the Sole F 80 ($1,800)…(ouch).

If you want a low-cost treadmill is around $500 or less, and can slide under your bed or desk, read on.

How I Picked the Best Budget Treadmill List

To create my list of top picks of affordable treadmills, I first asked my athletes and thousands of Instagram followers for their favorites. They were super honest, sharing what they liked and didn’t like about their treadmills, features they wish it had, and features they didn’t use.

Then I, and a hired researcher, scoured reviews, including the 1-star ratings, looking for trends in users’ experiences. We then culled our list down to ten home treadmills. The treadmills come in a range of prices depending on where you buy, and some are in stock, and others have limited quantity.

This treadmill can be folded up for easy storage when it’s not in use. The running deck is 49.5” long, and 16.5” wide, which IS pretty narrow for a treadmill, but not super short in length. This treadmill makes up for the narrow width with some other features you will usually only find on higher end machines.

This treadmill has a weight limit of 240 pounds, and the maximum speed is 8 miles per hour. The motor is a little small at 2.2 horsepower, but this treadmill has a 12% incline which is unheard of in treadmills at this price point, and the incline can be changed with a push of a button (no manual adjustments needed like the others on this list).

The LCD screen comes with your basic measurements of time, distance, and calories burned, and there are 12 interval based workouts already built in. There are built-in water bottle holders, and bluetooth capabilities. There is also an audio jack for older MP3 players.

This treadmill does not have some of the bells and whistles that you will find on more expensive models. There is no bluetooth connectivity, and no classes that you can workout along with like you may find with some of the pricier treadmills. The Xterra TR150 Folding treadmill weighs 108 pounds, has a 50” running deck, a 2.25 CHP motor, and running speeds of up to 10 miles per hour.

This treadmill does have three levels of incline, but they have to be changed manually so you can’t change it during your workout.

The maximum weight for this budget treadmill is 250 pounds and the maximum speed is 8 miles per hour. The deck of the treadmill is a bit shorter than most, at just 45 inches long, which is part of what makes it so compact. The maximum speed for this model is 8 miles per hour, and there is a small LCD display that shows time, distance, and speed. This treadmill is best suited for easy runs, no speed workouts that you need to stride out on. Also, not suited for taller runners.

This budget treadmill, like most of these, folds up compactly and it has wheels so that it can be easily moved out of the way when it is not in use. The lifting mechanism is hydraulic so raising it and lowering it is easy and quiet. The treadmill has a 55” long deck that is 20” wide, and the deck is cushioned for comfortable shock absorption during your workout. 

The treadmill has a 300-pound maximum weight capacity, and a very quiet 2.5 CHP motor, that can accommodate walking and running. The maximum speed is 10 miles per hour, and the incline can go from 0 to 10%.

I wouldn’t recommend doing all your runs on these treadmills, but they are good enough to fill in the blanks when it’s hard to get out the door because it’s too cold, hot, stormy, dark, or you have little ones at home.
